Diesel & Lena (American Bulldogs)

Welcome to my Blog!

How we started Garsioni's American Bulldogs:

Hello, I want to welcome you to Garsioni's American Bulldogs. Our story with this beautiful dogs starts back in 2007 when my husband was coming home from college. A few blocks from our house he saw a very simple and almost raggedy sigh saying: "American Bulldog pups for sale." As soon as he got home he mention it to me and ask me if I wanted to see the pups. We didn't know anything about it, not even what the breed looked like, so we head out to a near by neighborhood were the owner had the pups. Needless to say I felt in love with my female "Lena". She was the shyest and most insecure dog out of all of them, so I felt a necessity to make her confident and happy.
When we got home my husband asked me if I wanted my valentine's present a little early, which I obviously said yes and we went back the next day to get my pup "Lena". It took me about 3 days to break her shyness but it was worth it. Ever since, she has been the best family member, play matte and nanny a family can have.

When the years pasted and my girl became an adult, we thought it would be a good idea to give her a play matte. We cruised online and spent months researching the perfect match for her little personality and finally found him, the bad thing? The pup was in Arizona. My husband and his infatuation with this puppy made us drive halfway for 18 hours round trip in one day, with our 2 year old baby, to meet with the current owners of the pup in de middle of december. When we got there, this little pup was the cutest little thing in the whole world!

After we got home our dogs got along instantly, don't need to remind you Lena at this point was the "princess" of the house but she was never a brat. She let this pup do whatever he wanted and also take over her bed and toys (not normal for an animal). The pup got older, very muscular and handsome.
Years have gone by, two litters were born of Lena and Diesel and now our family was blessed with Newman (Lena's and Diesel's son). We got Lena fix after the second litter and kept Newman for consideration of stud fees. Diesel unfortunately passed away of natural reasons of some of this breeds (like every breed, american bulldogs have problems too), but he stays in our memories as one of the best Males we could ever have.

Below are some of the characteristics of this amazing breed and if you have any questions feel free to post it on the comment section.

American Bulldogs:

The American Bulldog is a breed of working dog that was developed in the United States. There are generally considered to be three types of American bulldog: the Classic type (sometimes called the Johnson type ), the Performance type (also called the Scott type), and the Hybrid type. The names associated with the Bully and Standard types are those of the breeders who were influential in developing them, John D. Johnson and Alan Scott. American Bulldogs are thought to be descended from working type bulldogs found commonly on ranches and farms in the Southern and Midwestern parts of the United States.

Health:

American Bulldogs generally live from 10–16 years, and tend to be strong, physically active, and often healthy. Some health problems in American bulldogs are often found within certain genetic lines, and are not common to the entire breed, while others, such as neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL),[2] Ichthyosis, disorders of the kidney and thyroid, ACL tears, hip dysplasiacherry eyeelbow dysplasiaentropionectropion, and bone cancer are more common to the general population of American Bulldogs. There are DNA tests available to help breeders screen breeding animals for NCL (neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis) [2] and Ichthyosis. It is highly recommended to spend time to research your breeder information, including your American Bulldog's family history. A Penn Hip (Pennsylvania Hip Improvement project) or OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) screening is recommended for all potential breeding animals. Some breeds of American Bulldog are prone to allergies. Symptoms like a runny nose or a rash are examples of signs of allergies. Some vets recommend dog owners to give 25mg of Benadryl per day; in most cases it helps.
